UPS was ranked No. 13 out of 1,109 companies surveyed in the "2009 Best Companies for Leaders" study, conducted by Bloomberg BusinessWeek.com and Hay Group, a management consulting firm. The annual study rates and identifies the Top 20 companies and organizations in the world, examining how they develop their leaders.
Employees from participating companies completed surveys about their organization's leadership development practices and were also asked to name other peer organizations that they believed are best at developing leadership at all levels.
According to the study, UPS demonstrated attributes of high-quality leadership, which include: continuing to make employee development a priority in spite of the economy; entering the recession with strong leadership in place while maintaining a commitment to prepare future leaders, and encouraging employees to learn in areas outside their expertise.
UPS has received a number of other recognitions for its training and professional development practices, including BusinessWeek magazine's Best Places to Launch a Career and Training magazine's Top 125 Award.
