2011

  • UPS launched its first Asian hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) in Hong Kong as part of UPS’s ongoing sustainability efforts around the world. Since their introduction into the global UPS fleet in 1998, HEVs have shown a 35 percent improvement in fuel economy over conventional vehicles. By the end of the year, Hong Kong will roll out another two HEVs, bringing the total to three. They will form UPS’s global green feet over 1,900 vehicles.
  • UPS announced the launch of direct flights from Hong Kong to Europe, enabling the company to offer the widest next-day delivery coverage for both packages and heavy freight to Europe from Hong Kong. With the addition of four direct flights, UPS now offers a total of 11 flights from Hong Kong to Europe each week.  This gives companies in the region easier access and more options to conduct business with Europe.  Indeed, with these flights, UPS reaches more of Europe next day, guaranteed, than any logistics carrier.
  • UPS Hong Kong was awarded the 2011 Best Practice Award –Technology Innovation, organized by the Best Practice Management; and Certificate of Merit in Transport and Logistics sector of the Hong Kong Award for Environmental Excellence, organized by the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC).

2010

  • UPS launched UPS Import ControlSM, a new function that gives importers rather than exporters greater control over their inbound shipments. The new service reduces delays to the shipping process due to incorrect or incomplete documentation, and gives importers the ability to mask profit margins as they ship directly to end-customers.
  • UPS introduced its carbon neutral programme in the Asia Pacific region, including Hong Kong. UPS customers now have the option of paying a small fee to calculate and offset the impact of the carbon emissions associated with their shipments.

2009

  • UPS announced its partnership with eBay Hong Kong to offer enhanced shipping solutions to select eBay users in Hong Kong. eBay PowerSellers based in Hong Kong can now use a UPS proprietary online shipping solution that improves business efficiency and enhances their reliability as vendors.

2008

  • UPS rolls out new products in 2008 for Asia Pacific - UPS Express Freight, UPS Air Freight Direct and UPS Air Freight Consolidated, UPS Broker of Choice, UPS FTZ Facilitator and UPS Clinical Trials.

2007

  • UPS introduces UPS PaperlessSM Invoice and UPS ReturnsTM, the first in the industry to offer customers a paperless international shipping option and a returns capability to 98 countries and territories.
  • UPS sponsored the 2007 World Grand Prix championships.
  • UPS announced in Beijing that the Olympics Logistics Center (OLC) of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games has started operation. As the “central hub” of Beijing Olympics logistics, the OLC is designed to provide logistics services to more than 50 competition venues, non-competition venues and training venues during the course of the Games.
  • UPS’s first 747-400 arrived at the company’s global air hub at Hong Kong for its public debut. The jumbo freighter would fly on long-range international routes, primarily into the Asia-Pacific region. Regular destinations would include Hong Kong; Incheon, South Korea; Sydney, Australia, and Shanghai, where the company has built an international air hub. Ultimately, the aircraft would be on “around the world” flights with stops in Cologne, Germany; Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Mumbai, India.

2006

  • UPS announced the launch of three daily time-definite delivery options in Jan 2007. The new services will provide customers with more flexibility on lanes between the United States and Asia, Europe and the Americas, giving businesses three time-of-day delivery options in 30 of the world’s most active trading markets.
  • UPS and the Chinese Volleyball Association (CVA) announced UPS’s sponsorship of the reigning Olympic champion Chinese women’s national volleyball team.
  • The first UPS Express retail store in China was opened on August 2. Located at the heart of the central business districts of Hongqiao in Changning District and Lujiazui in Pudong District, the
  • UPS Express stores provide commercial offices and small businesses with convenient and quick access to its package drop-off and pickup services.

2005

  • The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) announced that UPS has been selected as the Official Logistics and Express Delivery Sponsor of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
  • UPS has opened three new warehouse and distribution centers in Shanghai, Suzhou and Futian to support the explosive growth in Asia’s regional trade. The UPS International Air Hub in Shanghai will support express handling, distribution, cargo and air operations. The hub sorting capacity is projected to reach 17,000 pieces per hour. The hub will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

2004

  • UPS launched 12 new US-China flights, tripling UPS’s service from six to 18 flights a week.
  • UPS announced the acquisition of direct control of its international express operations from its partner Sinotrans in five major Chinese cities – Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin and Qingdao.
  • UPS opened its new 36,421 square-foot spin off centre in Kwai Chung, Hong Kong. The HK$8 million facility has a sorting capacity of 5,000 packages per hour.
  • UPS introduced UPS CampusShipTM in Hong Kong, offering customers the advantage of Web-based shipping solutions with centralized control and visibility ideal for decentralised office environments.

2003

  • UPS is one of the six US airlines to be granted the rights to operate a new all-cargo air service between Hong Kong and third-country cities in conjunction with their US-Hong Kong services.
  • UPS is named one of the best employers in Hong Kong by Hewitt Associates.

1988

  • UPS Hong Kong is established.
