In 2009, The Black Book of Outsourcing, published by Datamonitor, analyzed more than 350 contracts held by more than 1400 of the top business, organizations and conglomerate corporations worldwide. The study looked at 18 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the supply chain business process outsourcing area. UPS took the top overall honor, receiving the #1 overall ranking in Supply Chain Management Outsourcing. UPS was ranked #1 in nine of the 18 KPIs; ranked #2 in seven of the KPIs and #3 in the two remaining KPIs.
The definition of supply chain business process outsourcing in this analysis extends beyond transportation, warehousing and inventory control to include the procurement of materials and components as well.
