UPS Celebrates New Hub Opening

, September 05, 2008

UPS (NYSE:UPS) executives and local dignitaries today officially dedicated a large, state-of-the-art package sorting hub to support ground operations in Louisville.

The 258,390-square-foot sorting and distribution facility, known as the Louisville Centennial Hub, employs more than 1,100 people and houses approximately 180 delivery vehicles with room for future expansion. It features the latest technology to make the processing of packages more efficient as well as a modern UPS customer counter to handle any customer shipping need.

"This new center allows UPS to continue providing the level of service our customers expect," said Kentucky District Manager Judy Henry. "Our business in Kentucky continues to grow and we are excited about utilizing this new, larger facility."

UPS built the new ground hub after deciding to expand its Worldport® global air hub. Ground operations had been located in a facility on Ashbottom Lane adjacent to the airport but that land was needed for the air hub's expansion. The Centennial Hub was built on a 54-acre site on Air Commerce Dr.

One of two ground sorting facilities in the Louisville area, the Centennial Hub provides service to an area north to the Ohio River; east to Mall St. Mathews on Shelbyville Road; south to Glendale, Ky., in Hardin County, and west to just east of Owensboro, Ky. The Louisville ground hubs are two of 27 located in UPS's Kentucky District.
