UPS recognized with Environmental Responsibility Award
 
In December, the California Manufacturers/Industrial Environmental Association recognized UPS with its annual Environmental Responsibility Award. This award acknowledges UPS is advancing the development of alternative fuel technology with its fuel cell vehicle initiative. UPS operates two fuel cell vehicles in Ontario, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

UPS named to KLD Global Climate 100
 
In July, KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., an independent investment research and index provider, launched the KLD Global Climate 100SM Index, the first global index focused on solutions to climate change. UPS was the only package delivery company named on the inaugural list.

In March, FORTUNE Magazine’s America’s Most Admired Company survey named UPS among the top 10 most socially responsible companies and ranked UPS the most socially responsible company in its industry.

UPS named a "Clean Ocean Business" by city of Santa Cruz
 
In August 2002, the City of Santa Cruz, California recognized UPS for their efforts in protecting the ocean. The city officially has named UPS a "Clean Ocean Business." In a letter to UPS, the city lauded UPS for using "the best management practices to help protect water and wildlife from pollution."

ECO presents UPS with Excellence in Diversity and Environmental Stewardship Award
 
In 2000, the Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) honored UPS with the Excellence in Diversity and Environmental Stewardship Award. This award recognizes companies that excel in employment diversity and environmental stewardship.

UPS receives WRAP Award for waste reduction
 
In 2000, UPS received the WRAP Award from the State of California and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) recognizes businesses that have made outstanding efforts to reduce non-hazardous waste and send less garbage to our landfills.

Paperboard Packaging Council recognizes UPS for reusable UPS Next Day Air envelope
 
UPS was honored with the 1998 Excellence Award at the National Paperboard Packaging Competition in Washington, DC, by the Paperboard Packaging Council for the reusable UPS Next Day Air envelope, in March 1998.

UPS honored for water treatment initiatives
 
In May 1998, UPS achieved a perfect compliance record at its Virginia Beach facility for wastewater discharge and was honored with the Gold Award for Pretreatment Excellence in 1997 by the Hampton Road (Virginia) Sanitation District.

UPS Airlines wins 1997/98 Quiet Fleet Award
 
UPS Airlines, Palm Beach International's only all-cargo carrier, was recognized as one of five airlines to fly 100 percent takeoffs and landings in quieter Stage 3 aircraft. The Palm County Board of County Commissioners presented the 1997/98 Quiet Fleet Award to UPS in April 1998.

UPS awarded the Green Buckeye Award for UST compliance
 
UPS was awarded the Green Buckeye Award in June 1997 by the Ohio Department of Environmental Protection - Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulation (BUSTR) Division. This award acknowledged UST compliance.

UPS wins 1996 New England Environmental Award for CNG initiatives
 
The New England Environmental EXPO and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) both recognized UPS with the 1996 New England Environmental Award for the company's investment in alternative fuel technology, specifically the company's conversion of 100 package delivery vehicles to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) in Hartford, Connecticut, and the construction of a CNG fueling station there.
