UPS Provides Employees Quality Healthcare Resources
Today, there are few financial rewards or incentives for physicians and hospitals to provide efficient care and publicly reporting their quality, pricing and outcomes data. Most incentives revolve around the amount of care a patient receives. That’s why UPS is taking a leading role in advocating change in the health care industry by realigning this process to reward providers for taking better care of their patients.
UPS is a charter member of Bridges to Excellence, a program that connects UPS employees and their family members with the most efficient and effective healthcare providers. In the program:
- Doctors voluntarily certify that they practice evidence-based medicine and that information is provided to UPS people online,
- A report card for each physician is available to employees and the general public so increased accountability and quality improvements are encouraged,
- Patients are rewarded with better health through quality physicians, confidential, online tools and information, as well as a reduced co-pay. (There are no penalties for not using a physician in this program).
- Physicians are provided additional financial rewards for providing high quality, efficient care to employees and keeping them healthier, and
- UPS benefits with a healthier work force which means increased productivity and lower health care costs.
UPS also is a member of The Leapfrog Group, which promotes improvements in the quality of care and patient safety in the hospital setting. By providing hospital quality and patient safety survey results, Leapfrog helps patients make informed decisions about where to receive hospital care in a setting that works to eliminate preventable medical mistakes. Leapfrog high-quality hospitals have incorporated certain quality initiatives into their systems.
