UPS Supports Students in Zhangzhou Where The Chinese Women's Volleyball Team Will Train
UPS Celebrates Completion of the Zhi Shan Zhongxin Elementary School Playground in Zhangzhou with CVA
Beijing, January 17, 2008 - A 45-meter-long sports theme wall printed with “sports brings passion and passion brings success” was unveiled to the staff and students of the Zhi Shan Zhongxin Elementary School of Zhangzhou in Fujian province today. This initiative marks the completion and operation of the multi-sport outdoor stadium sponsored by UPS and Chinese Volleyball Association (CVA). From now on, students at the Zhi Shan Zhongxin Elementary School will have access to the same advanced sporting facilities as students do in any large Chinese city or throughout the world for sports activities.
The ceremony named “Delivering Passion · Achieving the Dream” was attended by Joe Guerrisi, Vice President of Marketing for UPS Asia Pacific Region; Daniel Chen, Vice President of the Beijing Olympic Sponsorship and Operations for UPS Asia Pacific Region; Li Quanqiang, Director of Volleyball Administrative Center of General Administration of Sports and Vice President of CVA; Lin Xiaofeng, Minister of the Propaganda Department of Zhangzhou Municipal Committee; Chen Zhonghe, Chief Coach of the Chinese women’s volleyball team and two women’s volleyball players.
The Zhi Shan Zhongxin Elementary School is located in Zhangzhou, Fujian province, where the women’s national team will train this year. On March 14, 2007, a donation was made by UPS and CVA to the school for building the multi-sport outdoor facilities. Before this, there was no full-facility stadium in Zhangzhou. Students did their exercises and sporting activities on bumpy grass plots. It has always been students’ and teachers’ dream to have a proper race track and a flat and safe playground.
“UPS feels greatly honored to contribute to promoting the development of junior sports undertakings by cooperating with CVA as the partner of Olympic volleyball champions,” said Daniel Chen, Vice President of the Beijing Olympic Sponsorship and Operations for UPS Asia Pacific Region.
“We hope to carry on with this meaningful project to further expand our corporate social responsibilities, and do what we can to help improve the lives of these Chinese students. We also hope the new stadium will improve a positive sports environment for the children and let them feel the passion of Olympics and the warmth of society,” Chen continued.
The newly completed outdoor multi-sport stadium includes volleyball and basketball courts and a 200-meter running track. It took four months from its groundbreaking to completion on December 24 in order for students’ use of this modern stadium. Its advanced facilities and state-of-the-art design will rank top among the many elementary schools of Zhangzhou.
