UPS Technology for Freight Customers

Overview:
UPS customers enjoy a common technology experience whether they are shipping and tracking a small package or heavy freight. UPS technologies are designed to enable better decision making and flexibility in the supply chain so that it is easier for customers to manage and expand their shipping operations around the world. Web-based shipment processing, billing and trade management tools help companies anticipate problems, improve customer service and react quickly to unanticipated events.

As a company’s global supply chain becomes more sophisticated their need for freight technology increases. UPS’s technology solutions focus on three primary areas: shipping, billing and visibility.

UPS Internet Freight Shipping allows customers to process and track freight shipments using either a tracking number or a customer-created reference number such as a purchase order number.  Users can send automated email notifications to their customers of a shipment’s status. The function is conveniently located on the same Web page accessed for small package processing and tracking making it easy for a customer to manage their shipments of any size or weight.

WorldShipTM enables shippers to process freight using data from their address books. They can prepare shipping labels for small packages, freight and international shipments; link to UPS Internet Freight Shipping to create a Bill of Lading (BOL); determine who pays shipping charges; and determine who pays duties and taxes for international shipments.

UPS Billing Solutions provides customers with detailed financial information about their small package or freight shipments, enabling customers to better manage their transportation costs. Billing data, analysis tools and electronic invoices give customers the full picture of their transportation spending with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Quantum ViewSM is a suite of three visibility services that give customers proactive status information about UPS shipments. These services can be used separately.

  • Quantum View Manage – a Web-based application that allows customers to view shipment information for multiple accounts without a tracking number. Users can create customized views of shipment history for outbound and 3rd party billed shipments and can receive e-mail shipment status and/or download selected shipment data.
  • Quantum View Data – delivers proactive critical package status updates via data files over the Internet for customers’ and suppliers’ inbound and/or outbound packages. This service targets large customer who want to integrate this data into their own ERP, CRM or other systems.
  • Quantum View Notify – delivers proactive critical package status updates via e-mail. This service targets customers that want UPS to notify interested parties about critical package status updates for some or all of their packages.

Flex® Global View (FGV) is Ideal for multi-modal shippers, distribution managers and supplier/vendor managers. FGV users can query the status of their air and ocean freight/forwarding shipments, and warehouse inventory, purchase orders and customs entry details via the Web. FGV includes proactive email notification about events and exceptions and advanced reporting and analytics capabilities.

  • UPS Flex Global View is somewhat unique to the industry because access is controlled through “Business IDs” which allows a business’ partners, like suppliers and vendors, access to only the information they desire them to view.

UPS Order WatchSM minimizes the inefficiencies that result from manual (telephone, email, fax) communications between buyers and vendors. Through a web-enabled interface, overseas suppliers can enter timely information on the status of buyers’ purchase orders. Buyers can track the status of their orders through Flex Global View. The benefits of UPS Order Watch include:

  • Helps create a paper trail to track vendors’ actions
  • Creates greater vendor accountability
  • Enables better data quality from vendors and timeliness
  • Allows for consistency of commercial invoice and packaging documentation
  • What is ordered is received!

UPS TradeAbilityTM is a collection of information, processes and services that enable customers to effectively prepare for and manage the movement of goods in and out of countries in a timely, efficient and compliant manner. Capabilities include landed cost calculations, compliance checks against export requirements, screening for denied parties, access to shipping and trade forms and identification of HS codes.

UPS TradeSenseTM helps automate customers’ import-export transactions in a collective environment to streamline operations, boost efficiencies, and enhance compliance. Not only does it leverage the exchange of information relevant to trade parties across platforms; it is a scalable application that can work either as a stand alone model or as a collaborative model. The system automatically updates government regulations to enhance compliance and synchronize data with suppliers and customers to promote consistency.

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems have Web-based reporting that enables information exchange between suppliers, carriers and Customs, and allows customers to monitor shipments and react to events in real-time. Solutions can be electronically linked to customs authorities around the world such as ACS, ABI, CADEX, ACROSS, NACCS, AMS2000 and CARGONAUT.

UPS Logistics Technologies, a business unit of UPS, provides transportation management solutions to distribution companies, helping them reduce transportation costs, save time routing, improve customer service and increase overall operational efficiency.

Trade Security
UPS can facilitate a company’s participation in the U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT); Automated Commercial Environment (ACE); and the 10+2 initiative.
