UPS’s environmental achievements and initiatives lead the industry in several areas. From being the first package delivery company in the U.S. to issue an annual sustainability report to adding the first hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles into daily operation, UPS continually demonstrates our commitment to protect environment.

FORTUNE magazine has recognized UPS on its prestigious "Most Admired Companies" ranking 22 times—based in part on the company’s scores in the Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility category. For the last three years, UPS was named the most socially responsible company in America by FORTUNE. In addition, the company has received numerous environmental awards and distinctions, including:

2007

  • UPS was named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere Magazine. The elite list of companies were recognized for strong leadership in ethics and compliance, advancement of industry discourse on social and ethical issues, and positive engagement in the communities in which they operate. UPS was the only transportation company on this list.
  • UPS was included in the eighth annual list of 100 Best Corporate Citizens in the U.S. The survey, published by CRO magazine, ranks companies on service in key categories: shareholders, community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights and product.

2006

  • FORTUNE magazine names UPS the most socially responsible company in its industry - In February, FORTUNE Magazine’s America’s Most Admired Company survey named UPS among the most socially responsible company in America and ranked UPS the most admired company in its industry.
  • Citing UPS's alternative fuel program and fuel conservation initiatives, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has honored the company with its distinguished Clean Air Excellence Award. The annual award recognizes organizations that improve air quality through innovative environmental programs.

2005

  • UPS recognized with Environmental Responsibility Award - In December, the California Manufacturers/Industrial Environmental Association recognized UPS with its annual Environmental Responsibility Award. This award acknowledges UPS is advancing the development of alternative fuel technology with its fuel cell vehicle initiative. UPS operates two fuel cell vehicles in Ontario, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
  • UPS named to KLD Global Climate 100 - In July, KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., an independent investment research and index provider, launched the KLD Global Climate 100SM Index, the first global index focused on solutions to climate change. UPS was the only package delivery company named on the inaugural list.
  • FORTUNE magazine names UPS the most socially responsible company in
    America -
    In March, FORTUNE Magazine’s America’s Most Admired Company survey named UPS among the most socially responsible company for the second year in a row.
  • UPS recognized by the EPA with the Clean Air Excellence Award - The Awards Program annually recognizes and honors both individuals and organizations that have undertaken the risks of innovation, served as pioneers in their fields, and have helped to improve air quality.

2002

  • UPS named a "Clean Ocean Business" by city of Santa Cruz - In August 2002, the City of Santa Cruz, California recognized UPS for their efforts in protecting the ocean. The city officially has named UPS a "Clean Ocean Business." In a letter to UPS, the city lauded UPS for using "the best management practices to help protect water and wildlife from pollution."

2001

  • UPS receives Aerospace Industry Top Honors - Flight International Magazine honored UPS for development and certification of the Capstone avionics suite.

2000

  • ECO presents UPS with Excellence in Diversity and Environmental Stewardship Award - In 2000, the Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) honored UPS with the Excellence in Diversity and Environmental Stewardship Award. This award recognizes companies that excel in employment diversity and environmental stewardship.
  • UPS receives WRAP Award for waste reduction - In 2000, UPS received the WRAP Award from the State of California and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) recognizes businesses that have made outstanding efforts to reduce non-hazardous waste and send less garbage to our landfills.
