UPS Helps Companies Apply "Logic" to Managing Their Business Mail

Jerry Kohnke Appointed New Head Of UPS Mail Innovations

ATLANTA, May 3, 2005 – UPS Mail Innovations™, the business mail services unit of UPS (NYSE: UPS), has fully integrated its expedited mail and international mail services into a suite of offerings now known as UPS Mail Logic®. And the offerings include a new option that provides even deeper cost savings.

The UPS Mail Logic portfolio of services covers pick-up, transport and processing of certain types of mail directly to the U.S. Postal Service or foreign postal authority nearest the final destination. UPS Mail Innovations generally handles mail pieces of less than a pound, including flats (annual reports or healthcare benefits packets); bound printed matter (catalogs or directories); lightweight products (samples, videos, CDs or books), and mail of all weights destined for international locations.

In the United States, companies rely on UPS Mail Logic to sort and weigh the pieces, affix Standard Mail postage and transport them to the U.S. Postal Service for final delivery – all at speeds within First Class plus a day.

The new option, UPS Mail Logic SaverSM, offers customers additional savings on non-urgent mail pieces with transit times averaging six days at lower per-piece rates.

"This is just another example of the versatility that business mailers have come to expect from UPS Mail Innovations," said Jerry Kohnke, who recently assumed leadership of UPS Mail Innovations as its vice president and general manager. "UPS Mail Logic is an apt name for these services because customers want to enjoy more convenience and cost savings while achieving the most effective mail delivery possible."

Kohnke joined UPS more than six years ago, taking part in the integration of the various business units that now make up UPS Supply Chain SolutionsSM, including UPS Mail Innovations. He has 25 years of supply chain management experience, including his previous roles at UPS as a vice president in service parts logistics and as a district manager for the Americas Central District.

Also of recent note, UPS Mail Innovations has been honored by AMERIGROUP Corp., a leader in managed healthcare services for the public sector, with its 2004 Supplier Excellence Program Award. UPS Mail Innovations was one of five companies to be recognized based on high rankings for such attributes as innovation, customer service, cost savings and quality of service.

Operating 12 mail processing centers throughout the United States, UPS Mail Innovations participates in several domestic and international U.S. Postal Service programs, including its work-share program. UPS Mail Innovations has been a National Account of the U.S. Postal Service, Business Partner Segment since 1997.
