WIPP Announces National Awards For Leadership In Advancing Women-Owned Businesses

UPS Captures 2006 WIPP Corporate Partner Award

WASHINGTON, DC (May 11, 2006) - In a ceremony at its 2006 spring conference, Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), the nation's largest bi-partisan women's business group, announced the 2006 WIPP Awards in several categories. These awards honor individuals, associations and companies that have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the growth and goals of women-owned businesses.

UPS (NYSE: UPS) was honored with the 2006 WIPP Corporate Partner Award, which recognizes a company's proven support of women business owners. Since December 2004, UPS has underwritten several activities devoted to empowering women entrepreneurs, including WIPP's annual national survey, "What Business Women Want," as well as the organization's fall Public Policy and its spring leadership conferences.

"UPS is a strong supporter of WIPP and women business owners," said Barbara Kasoff, WIPP president and co-founder. "We are proud to present the 2006 WIPP Corporate Partner Award to UPS for enabling the growth of women entrepreneurs and opening additional venues for women decision makers to make their voices heard."

In addition to the WIPP Corporate Sponsor Award, an association, four individual award-winners and an honorable mention were announced at the WIPP 2006 Leadership Watch conference attended by WIPP's top 100 leaders from across the country.

Linda Coughlin, president of Metro-Home NYC in New York City, received the 2006 WIPP Leadership Award, which recognizes a WIPP member who has demonstrated leadership, achievement, commitment and vision through active community engagement. An honorable mention in this category was awarded to Sheri Orlowitz, chairman and CEO of Shan Industries in Washington, D.C.

The WIPP Public Policy Award was presented to Kathy Carrier, president of Briljent, LLC, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Sue Kozel, president and founder of SK Visions in Cream Ridge, New Jersey. This award honors WIPP members whose active engagement in the political process has set an example for women entrepreneurs.

The WIPP Coalition Partner Award was given to Boardroom Bound®, a Washington, D.C. organization dedicated to diversifying the nation's boardrooms by encouraging and screening female candidates. Linda K. Bolliger, founder and CEO of Boardroom Bound, accepted the award on the organization's behalf.

Ananda Roberts, president of nFOCUS Software in Phoenix, Ariz., was presented with the WIPP Member Sponsor Award for her passionate support for WIPP and women entrepreneurs.

"All of this year's honorees are much more than successful business leaders. They are active citizens who are working to change the communities around them as well as public policy for women business owners across the country," said Kasoff. "We are proud to recognize their achievements through these WIPP Awards."
