UPS Expands 2nd Day Air Options

Guaranteed Delivery Time Now Earlier, Saturday Delivery Option Introduced
ATLANTA, Feb. 8, 2006 - UPS (NYSE:UPS) has accelerated the guaranteed
commit time for the industry’s only 2nd Day Air A.M.® delivery service
to 10:30 a.m. from 12 p.m. and added a Saturday delivery option for UPS 2nd
Day Air®.
The moves are part of an overall expansion of the UPS 2nd Day Air portfolio
that also includes the addition of 9,300 ZIP codes to the 2nd Day Air A.M. delivery
service area.
These deferred premium services offer any business an economical alternative
for time-sensitive shipments that do not require overnight delivery and are
especially popular among manufacturers, online retailers and wholesalers.
“Today’s businesses are under enormous pressure to squeeze more
time out of their days and fit more days into their weeks,” said Kurt
Kuehn, UPS senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing. “The
acceleration of UPS’s 2nd Day Air service and the addition of 2nd Day
Air Saturday delivery provide them faster and more flexible services to help
meet these challenges.”
For example, the earlier commit time of 2nd Day Air A.M. helps manufacturers
meet just-in-time schedules more economically while giving them more time in
the day to assemble finished products, and it ensures wholesale goods arrive
earlier to retailers, providing them more time to restock inventory. The service
also is ideal for the distribution and processing of paperwork and payroll for
companies with multiple locations. Important documents arrive early enough for
same-day processing and pay checks can be distributed to employees the day they
are delivered.
IMS Fastpak® is a leading supplier of in-store promotional materials for
some of the world's largest retailers and consumer products firms. Oftentimes,
the fulfillment and distribution of point-of-sale items are precisely timed
with national advertising and product availability across thousands of retail
locations. The earlier delivery guaranteed by 2nd Day Air A.M. helps IMS Fastpak
tackle these logistical challenges while providing stores more time to set up
displays once they are received.
The new 2nd Day Air Saturday delivery option also helps online retailers improve
customer service by ensuring delivery two days sooner compared to the normal
Monday arrival. And Saturday is an ideal delivery option for high-value items
that require a signature because customers are more likely to be at home.
The addition of 9,300 ZIP codes to the service area for 2nd Day Air A.M. brings
the total for that service to 26,800 ZIP codes. This expansion follows by just
six months the expansion of UPS’s Next Day Air® Early A.M.® delivery
territory by more than 7,200 new ZIP codes, extending UPS’s leadership
for early morning delivery to some 19,200 ZIP codes across the country.
The Saturday delivery option for 2nd Day Air costs $12.50 per package in addition
to the regular shipping rates. 2nd Day Air is available throughout the United
States and Puerto Rico. For more information about these enhancements and the
