John is responsible for three of AT&T’s four business units — AT&T Communications, WarnerMedia and Xandr — which together represented about 95% of AT&T’s 2018 consolidated revenues of $170.7 billion.

AT&T Communications is a global leader in communications with more than 135 million U.S. mobile, broadband and pay-TV customers and nearly 3 million business customers, from the smallest companies to nearly all the Fortune 1000. AT&T Communications is one of the largest wireless and pay-TV providers in the United States and provides high-speed internet connections to 60 million U.S. customer locations.

WarnerMedia is a leading media and entertainment company that creates and distributes premium and popular content from a diverse array of talented storytellers and journalists to global audiences through its industry leading consumer brands including: HBO, HBO Now, HBO Max, Warner Bros., TNT, TBS, truTV, CNN, DC Entertainment, New Line, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies and others. WarnerMedia’s brands operate one of the world’s largest TV and film studios, own a deep library of entertainment programming, and own or have a management stake in more than 25 digital properties.

Xandr is AT&T’s advertising company focused on creating a better solution for advertisers and publishers to find and reach specific audiences at scale in trusted, premium content environments. Xandr offers a real-time advertising marketplace for advertisers and publishers with relevant, automated and measurable advertising capabilities. And it combines that with valuable insights from millions of video, mobile and broadband customers.

Before being named AT&T’s President and Chief Operating Officer overseeing AT&T Communications, WarnerMedia and Xandr, Stankey was CEO of WarnerMedia, a position he continues to hold.

Stankey joined AT&T in 1985 and has served in a variety of leadership roles since, including: corporate strategy and M&A; media and entertainment; operations, IT and technology; consumer mobility, broadband and TV; and enterprise business.

He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Loyola Marymount University and an M.B.A. from UCLA.  He serves on the board of directors of UPS.
