New Wine Program in France Alleviates Worry and Hassle of Shipping Wine

Wine Shippers Experience Added Protection and Reduced Risk

UPS Capital®, a subsidiary of UPS® (NYSE:UPS), which provides supply chain financial, insurance and payment services, announced that the UPS Customized Declared Value for Wine program is now available to vintners and wine shippers in France. The program provides wine shippers1 in France everything they need to ship and protect their product, including packaging consulting, and custom pricing for shipping and protection in the event of  loss or damage.

UPS is pre-empting vintners' needs by addressing their most demanding requirements in terms of shipments and protection. By subscribing to the UPS Customized Declared Value for Wine program, vintners can offer their customers a high-end service with full protection for the value of their order.

According to the French Federation of Wines and Spirits Exporters2, France exported 138 million cases of wine in 2015, mainly to the US, the United Kingdom and Germany, but also China and Singapore. The wine industry is France's second-largest export sector3.

“In the past, businesses have faced many challenges when shipping wine, including cork push, seepage, temperature issues and breakage,” stated Jorge Navarro, vice president of UPS Capital Europe. “The UPS Customized Declared Value Program for Wine will change the way businesses approach shipping their wine, reducing their risk all in one stop.”

To minimize in-transit damage, UPS has engaged consultants to develop packaging designed to transport wine.  If customers use packaging supplied by a UPS-approved provider, they can receive a full refund of the product's retail cost and the transport costs incurred if there are damages. With UPS Customized Declared Value Program for Wine, customers get automatic protection up to 500 €. If the shipment has a higher value, additional coverage can be added up to the full retail value of the goods. Customers now have peace of mind that their wine orders are protected and will not be subject to any financial loss. In the event of an incident, the streamlined claims process takes approximately 8 to 10 days.

After Italy, France is the second country to have access to the “UPS Customized Declared Value for Wine” program, and we believe it meets their unique industry needs.
