UPS Contributed More Than C$2 Million To Canadian Communities

UPS® has continued its on-going commitment to support Canadian communities by contributing more than $2 million to charitable organizations in 2016. Of those organizations, UPS Canada continued its 30 year relationship with United Way Centraide Canada by raising more than $1.2 million across the country. The contribution combines both employee engagement and sponsored events including the four nation-wide “Pulling for U” plane pulls that took place in Toronto, Hamilton, Vancouver and Calgary.

With a focus on diversity, community safety, environmental sustainability and volunteerism, The UPS Foundation awarded grants totaling more than $590,000 in 2016.  Additionally, over 1,700 UPS employees across Canada registered for the JDRF TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes raising more than $173,000. UPS Canada also awarded $100,000 in community grants to more than 160 charitable organizations nationwide. Organizations were nominated by UPS employees and must have benefited from 50 hours of hands-on volunteering from those employees to qualify.

UPS-led volunteer initiatives mobilize employees throughout Canada to engage in numerous volunteer efforts and activities. Through increased dedication, UPS employees and their families contributed more than 105,000 volunteer hours to charitable organizations and planted over 2,600 trees in 2016. Globally, UPS invested a record 2.7 million hours of volunteer service last year. UPS is on track to meet its goal to contribute 20 million global volunteer hours by the end of 2020.

Among the 2016 grant recipients is the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC). UPS’s partnership with BGCC began in 2010 and since then, The UPS Foundation has provided annual grants to BGCC totaling more than $850,000.

UPS Road Code® is a global sponsored teen safe driving program based on the company’s safe-driving methods that is offered through various BGCC locations. Its success is largely dependent on the UPS service providers that oversee the program and facilitate the hands-on training. Last year, 401 young adults graduated from the program, totalling more than 1,300 graduates in Canada.

UPS Canada service providers are among the safest on the roads with less than six auto incidents for every 100,000 hours worked in 2016.  The company’s commitment to safety also extends across the 12,000 employees in Canada who had less than one injury where an employee was not able to perform their duties, per 200,000 hours worked in 2016. Due to ongoing employee safety training, including a daily pre-work communication meeting, safety is top of mind before every employee begins and ends their day.

In addition, UPS service providers who have not had an at-fault accident for 25 years are enrolled in the elite “UPS Circle of Honor.” In 2016, 27 drivers were recognized raising the total number to 137 in Canada. Globally, more than 9,300 drivers have logged more than 22.5 billion kilometers and 266,554 years of safe driving throughout their careers.
